About Meghan Fraley, PhD

I am a licensed psychologist in private practice providing supportive and empowering psychotherapy to adults and adolescents in San Jose, California. I am licensed by the California Board of Psychology (PSY27416). In addition to my work as a psychologist, I work as a teacher, researcher, and community organizer. I have experience working in the non-profit sector, health psychology research and creative problem solving. My educational background focuses on psychology, politics, and social science. I hold a PhD in clinical psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, a MA in social sciences from the University of Chicago and a BA in psychology and political science from Oberlin College. My dissertation research examined the characteristics of transpersonal psychotherapists.

I have studied and explored spirituality and religion as related to health and personal growth throughout my life in both the professional and personal realms. I am a certified yoga and enneagram teacher. I received my yoga teacher training in 2009 at Mount Madonna Center, and certification as an Enneagram Teacher in the Narrative Tradition in 2010. I believe that one's connection to her or his own personal spirituality may facilitate a greater sense of well-being and joy in life.

Research

As a researcher, my passion and focus is on holistic healing. My dissertation research examined the qualities of transpersonal psychotherapists. I also have worked on research in the areas of women's health, meditation, mental health and yoga, and ego development as facilitated by enneagram work.

Psychotherapy Approach

As a therapist, I work from a holistic and integrative approach. I am primarily influenced by transpersonal, humanistic and psychodynamic theories. I believe it is important to build a healing and sacred container for the therapeutic work. A strong and caring therapeutic relationship forms the foundation of psychotherapy and gives the client opportunities to relearn about themselves and the world. Moving toward a sense of well-being, engagement and actualization in daily life is a goal of treatment.

I work with adults and teens with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulty and those who are seeking personal development and spiritual growth work.
